What is Myofascial Release?

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a gentle, hands-on therapy that applies sustained pressure to release restrictions in the fascia – the body’s connective tissue network. Though relatively new to the UK, MFR has gained recognition for its ability to reduce pain, restore movement, and improve function by targeting deep tissue tension without force or discomfort.

“Understanding Fascia “

Fascia is a tough, flexible web of connective tissue that surrounds and supports every structure in the body, from muscles and bones to organs, nerves, and blood vessels, right down to the cellular level. Think of it as the body’s internal fabric, where restrictions in one area can affect movement and comfort elsewhere.

How MFR Works

MFR is performed directly on the skin, without oils or creams, allowing the therapist to feel and respond to subtle fascial restrictions. A postural assessment is often carried out beforehand to identify areas of imbalance or tension.

Unlike more forceful manual therapies, MFR respects the body’s natural limits. The pressure is light but sustained, allowing tissues to release at their own pace, without the need for pain to achieve results. It’s a safe and effective option for people of all ages and activity levels.
